It is said that the first casualty of war is truth. Now it doesn't have to be all out war but this saying is true of most conflicts, be they cross border or your average "domestic". All conflict is generated from a position of fear and we must at all costs, be right.!! Yes ,the need to be right supercedes all other consideration.Truth will be bent to satisfy our need to be right and God help anything or anyone who challenges that position!.Lies have legs and the more the lie is perpetuated, the more legs it develops.
So please be careful the next time you feel like telling a porkie. It's like going to a mountaintop with a bag of feathers on a windy day. Once opened, you cannot get them back.
